Due to the continued bad weather and high wind warnings in place the Buckingham Christmas Lights Switch On is cancelled.
This was a difficult decision for the Town Council to make, but unfortunately the high wind speeds and the large pieces of equipment required to run the event create too great a safety risk at an outdoor event. The lights will still be turned on tonight, at around 5.30pm.
With thanks to all of our volunteers, traders, musicians, performers, residents and visitors that would have joined the Town Council tonight and who have been such a big part of celebrating Buckingham in 2021.
Join the Mayor, Cllr Margaret Gateley, outside the Old Gaol on Saturday 27th November for the Christmas Light Switch On.
Festive Market from 4:00 pm, including stalls, hot food and drink and childrens activities.
Entertainment will begin at 6:00pm, including sing along Christmas Carols, Winslow Concert Band and a performance by the Bard of Buckingham.
The lights will be turned on at around 7:00pm.
Organised by Buckingham Town Council this year’s Christmas light switch on was attended by more people than ever on Saturday. For the first time, a number of stalls set up for the day in the Cattle Pens, including a children’s ride.
The lights were switched on by the Town Mayor Cllr Jon Harvey. There were
performances by the Buckingham Children’s Choir and Buckingham Stage Coach Performing Arts. The Winslow Concert Band provided the music for the carols and there was a special appearance by Father Christmas as well as Pucky the MK LIghtning Ice Hockey Team mascot.
This year the Town Council entered a new 3 year contract for the festive motifs that are placed on the lighting columns in the town centre. The new multi-coloured lights proved popular with residents.
There were some difficulties with sound, with those further away from the stage struggling to hear everything that was going on. The Town Council’s Town Centre & Events Committee agreed on Monday evening (3rd December) to ensure that next year there will be additional speakers and a higher stage to ensure everyone is able to fully take part.
