Buckingham’s Foodie Heaven

Buckingham’s ninth annual Food Fair, held on Saturday 26th February 2022, attracted a record 1,500 people inside Buckingham Community Centre, with more visiting traders positioned around the building.   Visitors tried and tested some of the best food and drink local traders had on offer. An easter egg was even given to the one-thousandth visitor. One shopper described the event as Foodie Heaven.

Each trader showcased their products and outstanding customer service, many selling out of stock on the day. We welcomed back traders who have supported us since the very first Food Fair back in 2013 along with first-time traders such as MKS Food Distribution, Buckingham Fairtrade, Indian Orchard and Reasons To Season.

Interactive smoothie bikes were on offer for anyone to try.  These proved very popular and saw some great demonstrations from local children, adults and the Mayor of Buckingham, Cllr. Margaret Gateley. Visitors got to pick out their own ingredients and then raced against the clock to see how fast they could create their desired fruit smoothie.

Most of the food traders came from within a 30-mile radius of the town.  But the event also celebrated all the restaurants and venues in Buckingham.  500 new Foodie Buckingham maps were handed out, showing all the different and fabulous venues in the town.

Funding for the smoothie bike and foodie maps was provided by the Government’s ‘Welcome Back Fund’ through Buckinghamshire Council.

Lead councillor of the event, Cllr Fran Davies, said: “What a fantastic event with over 2000 people enjoying the produce on the stalls and the traders in the sunshine. Thanks have to go to the Town Council Team, but especially Bethanie, our Business and Administration Apprentice, for all their hard work and organisational skills. Many of the traders were asking when the next one will be, I'm sure we're all looking forward to it. I was so happy to see so many smiling faces in Buckingham.”

Regulars to the Food Fair, who have supported the event from the beginning and will be attending again this year, include: MKS Food Distribution, selling Turkish Delight, baklava, and nuts. Buckingham Fairtrade, Indian Orchard, with their award-winning handmade Indian chutneys, pickles and vegetable samosas and Reasons To Season, displaying their amazing marinades and sauces.

Other stall holders attending include The Chocolate Mill, Two Spoons Tea, Chafor Wine, Pure Patisserie, Silverstone Brewery, Bucks Recycles, Crumb de la Crème, Patricia O'Keeffe Sweets, Bucks Star Beer, Fudgey Moments, Replete Flatbreads, Devilishly Delicious Food by Emma, Marlow Cheese Co, From Garden to Jar, Chiltern Charcuterie, Stanley’s Homemade Free-From Treats and Friars Farm.

A smoothie bike company will also be at the Food Fair creating beautiful tasting smoothies. All visitors will need to do is ride the static bicycle so it can generate the power needed for the blender to blitz the ingredients! We hope that this free and interactive smoothie bike will keep you entertained.

To celebrate our local food traders and restaurants the event will also be giving away hundreds of Buckingham Foodie maps – these maps show every single food trader in the parish of Buckingham, showcasing the fantastic variety that Buckingham has to offer all year around.

Funding for the smoothie bike and foodie maps is being provided by the Government’s ‘Welcome Back Fund’ from Buckinghamshire Council.

Outside the Community Centre will be a range of sensational street food from Mexican to English cuisines provided by Baja Cantina, Good Times Café, Roo's Food and Marks Ice’s.

There will be oodles of different delicious products to try and purchase. Have a special dietary requirement? Many of our local traders also sell a variety of gluten free, vegan and vegetarian products to suit all needs and tastes.

Chairman of the Town Centre & Events Committee, Cllr Robin Stuchbury, said “This year it’s more important than ever that we can hold the food fair to stimulate and support our local economy. When we first started this event, we didn’t truly realise how successful it would be but it’s very pleasing to know that it’s been well-received over the years. It’s also fantastic that the Town Centre and Events Committee continues to support this event alongside the dedicated team of Town Council officers. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Buckingham Food Fair, taking advantage of this great community event and supporting local businesses in the way local Buckingham & villages residents always seem to do.
