Christmas Parade and Christmas Lights Switch On

Want to know about this year’s event? Sign up for online updates or follow us via FacebookTwitter and Instagram for more details.

Buckingham gets the Christmas period started each year with a festive makeover. Over 750 metres of Christmas Lights are hung from town centre shops and lamp posts, and all turned on at a seasonal launch event. Just a few weeks later the Christmas Parade gets going with dozens of creative floats put together by local groups from Buckingham and the surrounding area.

Christmas Lights Switch On

Buckingham’s town centre Christmas light switch on happens around the end of November, with local Choirs’ performing, Carols to sing and plenty of entertainment on offer. A festive gift fair runs alongside the event, with charity and community group stalls very welcome to attend.

Christmas Parade

The Christmas Parade is organised by the Christmas Parade Committee and grows every year with dozens of floats and hundreds of people taking part. Each year a new theme is chosen, and local groups are invited to show off their imagination by designing the most exciting floats. The Council, alongside many volunteers, support the road closure that makes it possible for the event to take place safely. If you’d be interested in volunteering to help this event please contact our Events Coordinator.

Christmas Light Switch On Road Closure

Both the Christmas Light Switch On and the Christmas Parade require road closures to allow the events to take place safely. The Lights Switch On has a road closure of the Market Hill area only.

Christmas Parade Road Closure

Each year road closure information will be released, typically the street closed are High Street (North and South, allowing access to Paynes Court), Market Hill (North and South) Market Square, Bridge Street, London Road, Chandos Road, Station Road and Western Avenue. Other town centre streets will have restricted access or one way systems in place, including School Lane, Castle Street, and Addington Road. Please obey signage, and keep an eye on our website, Facebook and Twitter accounts for more information closer to each event.
