Affordable Homes

Residents are concerned that many people are not able to reside in Buckingham due to housing costs. The need for more affordable homes was raised at consultation events. It has also appeared in public comments made on planning applications.

Buckingham Neighbourhood Development Plan – Buckingham Town Council

Talking Points:

  • 2015 Plan required 35% of mid-to-large developments to be affordable homes; VALP, the current Local Plan seeks a minimum of 25%
  • This has been delivered under the 2015 Plan.
  • Variety or mix of homes is also important. Independent reporting suggest that 3 bedroom houses are the most versatile to people at all stages of life.
  • Aware of desire to see more bungalows in the housing offer.

The Plan will deliver:

  • 35% affordable housing from the two main allocation sites
  • 35% affordable housing from developments of 1ha or 25 homes or more on brownfield sites
  • Housing mix seeking 50% of smaller homes (up to 3 bedroom) of developments of 5 or more
  • Support/encourage the provision of  bungalows within developments.
