Buckingham backs the Lionesses

In the run-up to the final of the UEFA Women’s European Championships 2022, Buckingham Town Council flew St. George’s flags across the town centre to show support for the England squad.

After a very tense and challenging game between England and Germany that took place on Sunday 31st July, the Lionesses managed to win the tournament and secure a place in history and in our hearts! They showcased oodles of talent and we are very proud of what they have achieved. It has been a pleasure to be so close to the hub of some of the games and see mascots, some of which live in Buckingham and play for the local football clubs, representing the country and the England team.

Town Mayor, Cllr. Margaret Gateley said “What a fantastic, if nail-biting, match it was on Sunday evening! Well done to the amazing England Women’s Football Team! Buckingham was supporting them with England flags displayed in the town centre, as well as local team mascots at Wembley. What a boost it was for women’s football! Well done the Lionesses!”
