The Annual Statutory Meeting of Buckingham Town Council was held on Monday. Due to legislative changes this meeting was held in person and social distanced at Lace Hill Sports and Community Centre.

As the first meeting of the new Mayoral year, the new Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Buckingham were selected. Cllr. Margaret Gateley will be the Mayor of Buckingham and Cllr. Warren Whyte was chosen as Deputy Mayor. The full ‘robing’ of the Mayor will take place in public for the first time this year at the Celebrate Buckingham event.

2021 awards were also decided including;

  • Friends of Buckingham
  • Sport and Art Award
  • Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise Organisation of the Year
  • Natural Environment and Climate Champion
  • Mayor’s Prize For Outstanding Young Person

These awards will be distributed at the Celebrate Buckingham Day in Bourton Park on 10th July 2021.

Councillors decided that between now and the 21st June only Full Council meetings will take place in person, at Lace Hill. Other committees have become working groups, with the Town Clerk making delegated decisions based on the recommendations of those working groups until changes in restrictions mean in person meetings can be reviewed.
