The people of Buckingham not only want to see affordable homes within new development but also really good design, which fits with the character of Buckingham, as an historic market town community.
Talking Points:
- How do we make sure we do not just get the same basic houses as anywhere else in the country? Without a Neighbourhood Plan it is likely that there will be little adaptation to reflect the character of Buckingham.
- Is it possible to incorporate existing trees and hedgerows into new development?
- How can we make homes more resilient to climate change?
- How do we make estates even more safe and welcoming?
The Plan will deliver:
The Buckingham Design Code is an enforceable part of the Neighbourhood Development Plan – not just optional guidance.
- This Code was drafted by local individuals who know and understand Buckingham, and who listened to ideas and comments made during the Consultation process.
- The Independent Examiner called the policy “excellent” and further stated that the Design Code “is an excellent document which captures the character of the town.”
- It provides both a macro and micro approach to the design of new buildings and estates within the Buckingham Plan Area,
- It has a clear “must” “should” and “could” system of prescription and suggestion.
- It considers amongst others – building materials; planting; defibrator access; parking on estates; road layout on new estates and water conservation.
