1st Buckingham Scouts and Town Council Brighten Lace Hill with Daffodils

Buckingham Town Council is thrilled to have teamed up with the 1st Buckingham Scouts on a delightful environmental project at Lace Hill. The Scouts were looking for ways to earn an environmental badge, and the Council was more than happy to support their efforts.

The Town Council’s Estates Team had already planned a bulb planting session to build on the work carried out by Lace Hill Primary School two years ago. Bringing the Scouts on board made it a wonderful opportunity for the community to work together.

On Sunday 12th October, from 2–4pm, the Estates Team and the Scouts planted 750 daffodils along the edges of a wooded area overlooking the football pitches. The Scouts came fully prepared with their own tools and safety equipment, showing great enthusiasm and teamwork.

Now, as the daffodils bloom beautifully, they create a cheerful splash of colour that brightens the area for all visitors to enjoy and provides a lovely backdrop to the football pitches.

Growing Benefits for Wildlife and the Community

What might seem like a simple planting project is already making a meaningful difference:

Community pride and learning: As well as enhancing the natural environment, the flowers bring seasonal beauty to Lace Hill and help spark curiosity about local wildlife and ecosystems — inspiring others to get involved.

A boost for biodiversity: Early-flowering bulbs such as daffodils provide vital nectar and pollen for bees, butterflies and other pollinators at a time when little else is in bloom.

New habitats: The growing understorey vegetation offers shelter and food for small mammals, birds and invertebrates.

Cllr. Lucy Draper, Chair of environment Committee said:

“Buckingham Town Council is proud to support local groups like the 1st Buckingham Scouts and looks forward to more initiatives that bring the community together while enhancing our natural spaces.”

The Council extends its thanks to the Scouts for their energy and commitment — and encourages residents to take a stroll past the football pitches to enjoy the wonderful display.
